Print your boarding pases at home, if possible. You can do soas early as 24 hours before your scheduled departure.
Arrive at the airport at least 2 hours in advance for domestic flights, and 3 hours before international flights.
Keep your photo ID and/or passport handy, as you will need to show it at various points during check-in and screening.
Pack lightly. Some airlines now have fees based on the weight of your checked luggage. Charges vary depending on carrier, so contact your airline to clarify luggage restrictions and possible fees before you head to the airport.
Place ID tags, colored ribbon or a similar item on the outside of both checked and carry-on luggage to help you quickly spot and identify your bags.
Dress comfortably, knowing that enhanced security measures are in effect for screening through the security checkpoints.
Put all bulky jewelry, belts, cell phones and items in your pockets in your carry-on luggage until after you go through security.
Remember the 3-1-1 carry-on packing rules: 3 ounces or less of liquids or gels carried in 1 clear plastic, quart-sized, zip-top bag, and 1 bag allowed per passenger.
Do not wrap gifts, as they will be subject to search.
Pack a small backpack for your kids, filled with crayons, coloring books, small toys and snacks.
For children under 2, bring a copy of their birth certificate. You may be asked for it when you check in, especially if your child appears to be close to 2 years old. Scanned or digital copies should be accepted.
Take security seriously! Do not make jokes or light-hearted comments while being processed for a flight.
