A lot more of us are answering "yes" to that question than at any other time in Central Florida's history.

A record number of families with children, senior citizens, and other neighbors who were living near the edge before the economic downturn have now fallen off of it.

Unfortunately, basic needs like food are among the many things these thousands of families are struggling with today.

While we may not be able to solve all of their problems this holiday season, one thing that we can do is to make sure they have enough to eat. There has never been a shortage of food in America, and this is a problem that can be addressed with resources that already exist.

That's why we've joined together with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida -- a dependable nonprofit that has been serving our neighbors in need for more than a quarter century.

Second Harvest Food Bank is currently providing millions of pounds of food per year to more than 500 local partner feeding programs, but it's simply not enough to fully meet today's need.

This holiday season I urge all Central Floridians to find a way to take action in helping to provide our most vulnerable citizens with the basic food resources they need to survive this tough economic time.
