ORLANDO -- Candidates in Florida's contentious 8th district congressional district race went face-to-face for a debate Monday night.
News 13's Scott Harris was one of the panelists for the showdown between incumbent, Republican Ric Keller, and challenger, Democrat Alan Grayson.
The candidates disagreed on everything from a fair tax proposal to Iraq to the economy.
"It would eliminate the IRS, all income taxes, all payroll taxes, all capital gains taxes, the death tax, and replace it with a consumption tax that captures revenue from illegal immigrants, as well as corporations, so what we're having, really, is a tax prebate of $400 a month and people would save money, not pay more money," Keller said.
"We need a bailout, but we need a bailout for the people who have been punished by this Bush/Keller economy. We need a bailout for people who have had small businesses that failed. We need a bailout for people who can't pay their mortgages anymore. I support a $700 billion bailout for the people who really need it, not for Wall Street, and it seems like Wall Street gets whatever it wants under Bush and Keller and the the rest of us can go to hell."
You can see the debate in its entirety on Sunday, Oct. 26 on WMFE-TV at 1:30 p.m. on Bright House Channel 2.
