PORT ORANGE -- A Volusia County man has turned to the popular Internet auction Web site eBay to sell his 3-acre island.
The island is located two miles south of the Dunlawton Bridge on the Halifax River.
But why eBay?
“So everyone can get a shot at it," said Emilio Cirelli, the island’s owner.
Cirelli’s original asking price was $1. As of Wednesday afternoon, the top bid was $350,000.
He thinks the top bid will reach $1 million, but said he would settle for $500,000.
Cirelli bought the island five years ago for $20,000, and has invested approximately $20,000 more into the property.
He said he purchased the property because there are so few islands on the East Coast for sale, other than multimillion dollar ones in Jacksonville and the Florida Keys.
Cirelli said approximately six homes can be built on the island, which sits 4.5 feet above sea level.
He said it is zoned by the city of Port Orange for commercial use, and is only accessible by boat, seaplane or helicopter.
