MELBOURNE BEACH -- Dogs on the beaches of Melbourne Beach will be up for discussion Wednesday night.

A proposed ordinance would make it OK to bring your pooch on the beach during certain early-morning and late-afternoon hours.

Dogs are not allowed on any sections of beaches in Brevard County presently. Owners who violate the rule can be fined $55.

The city would tryout the proposal for six months and could make it permanent after that.

Opponents are worried owners won't pick up after their dogs and that sunbathers may be at risk of dog bites.

Wednesday's meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. before the Town Commission.
