DAYTONA BEACH -- Police are joining several other departments around the country for a new way to collect DNA.
Chief Mike Chitwood said he wants his officers to start using the "Touch DNA" technique, involving swabbing for skin cells people shed when they touch things.
Police around the U.S. have already been swabbing for skin cells when no other evidence is available, but experts said the technique is not always reliable.
The Daytona Beach Police Department started asking for voluntary DNA samples earlier in the year for people they stopped during Bike Week.
Voluntary DNA samples are taken by swabbing in the inside of the cheek for skin cells.
