DENNIS, Mass. -- An animal welfare official said a wayward manatee that was rescued from cold Cape Cod waters died on the way to SeaWorld Orlando.
The juvenile male reportedly died Sunday afternoon just before the transport truck made it to Orlando.
The sea cow somehow wandered into a harbor off the coast of Cape Cod.
Wildlife officials feared for his health in the chilly water, and decided to pull him out Saturday.
Manatees are normally found in the warm waters off Florida and Georgia, and stop feeding if they get too cold.
A necropsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
