Severe weather often makes for an amateur photographer’s delight as some pretty amazing pictures of nature’s power can be captured.

Here at News 13 we like to feature those spectacular photos and video in our coverage and during your Weather on the 1’s every 10 minutes.

Here are some tips for taking your pictures and sharing them with News 13:

• When using an iPhone/Android, turn your phone horizontally so that the home button is on the left or right (TVs these days are typically widescreen, with your phone like this, it will better fit the screen).
• When taking video, try not to talk – or at least watch your language – (we can mute video, but then we miss out on the natural sound of thunder or rain).
• On any phone, try not to use zoom (the image becomes grainy and is often too poor to use).

Remember to include your name and location, plus feel free to include any details about what was happening when you took the picture.

Weather isn’t the only thing you can send in pictures of. If you see breaking news, follow all the same tips and send it on in.
