GEORGE ZIMMERMAN

Sanford resident of the Retreat at Twin Lakes subdivision, where the shooting took place. Zimmerman was 28 at the time.

Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, claims he shot Trayvon Martin in self-defense, saying the teen attacked him.

TRAYVON MARTIN

17-year-old from Miami. Was visiting family friends in Sanford when he was shot and killed by Zimmerman late Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012.

Martin was walking back from a nearby 7-Eleven. He was unarmed, carrying only a bag of Skittles and a bottle iced tea.

O'Mara had been practicing law in Central Florida for 28 years when Zimmerman retained him.

Trayvon Martin's mother. Was divorced from Tracy Martin prior to Trayvon's shooting.

Together, Fulton and Tracy Martin have founded the Justice for Trayvon Martin Foundation in the wake of their son's death.

Lawyer representing Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton. Partner of the Tallahassee law firm Parks & Crump LLC.

Crump previously represented the family of Martin Lee Anderson, the teen whose beating by guards at a Florida boot camp in 2006 was captured on video.

Lawyer representing the Martin family. Founder of the Orlando law firm Women's Trial Group.

Jackson previously represented then-14-year-old Edwin McFarlane, accused of trying to kidnap a toddler from an Orlando Burlington Coat Factory in 2010. McFarlane claimed he was trying to help the child find her mother, and the charges were later dropped.

State attorney for Florida's 4th Judicial Circuit. Appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to lead a state investigation of Trayvon Martin's shooting.

Corey was elected state attorney in 2008. The 4th Circuit covers Duval, Clay and Nassau Counties in Northeast Florida.

JUDGE KENNETH LESTER JR.

Second judge to preside over the case, from April 18–Aug. 29, 2012, replacing Jessica Recksiedler. Seminole County Circuit judge since 1996. Graduate of UCF and UF.

Lester was removed from the Zimmerman case after an appeals court ruled his calling Zimmerman a "manipulator" of the law could be considered biased. Replaced by Debra Nelson.

The original judge assigned to the George Zimmerman case after he was charged with second-degree mudrer.

Stepped aside April 18, 2012, after attorney Mark O'Mara noted Recksiedler's husband works in the office of attorney Mark NeJame, who was asked by Zimmerman's family to represent him. (NeJame declined.)

BILL LEE

Former Sanford chief of police who stepped aside and was later fired amid growing unrest over his department's decision not to arrest Zimmerman following the shooting.

Lee became Sanford's police chief in May 2011, replacing Brian Tooley following a scandal involving a police lieutenant's son caught on video attacking a homeless man. A Sanford native, Lee previously spent over 25 years as a Seminole County deputy. Sheriff's Deputy.

Former state attorney for Florida's 18th Judicial Circuit, which serves Seminole and Brevard counties.

Wolfinger has stepped aside in the case. The circuit's current state attorney as of 2013 is Phil Archer.

U.S. REP. CORRINE BROWN

Democratic congresswoman representing Florida's 5th District. At the time of the shooting, Brown represented District 3, which included Sanford.

Brown met with the Dept. of Justice and called for an investigation of the Sanford Police Department.

As of 2013, the Retreat at Twin Lakes subdivision where the shooting took place is in District 7, represented by Rep. John Mica, R-Winter Park.
