Some want to carry their concealed weapons in the open and they are letting their voices be heard.

Protests were held in Brevard and Volusia Counties.

Florida is one of only a handful of states that prohibits open carry, except when fishing and hunting.

That's why one of Saturday's events was held at a fishing dock at Front Street Park in Melbourne, where people who came out were encouraged to bring their gun and wear it openly.

Over 100 people showed up at the event in Melbourne.

They want to be able to carry their gun in a holster in openly and they want state laws changed.

"I would like to see the ability for private citizens to openly carry their firearms and show that they can help protect and secure this country," said Philip Read who organized this event.

Most states allow open carry in some way or another and supporters believe it is their right.

Opponents feel it is a threat to public safety and can be dangerous.

The ban in Florida has been in place since 1987.

A similar event was also held in Volusia County at the Port Orange Causeway Park.
