While questions surround the future of a mosque in New York City, residents of Gainesville are happy the Quran burning at a church has been cancelled.
Nearby neighbors are certainly happy the burning has been called off because they feared for their safety.
Gainesville police were planning security checkpoints coming into the Mile Run neighborhood surrounding the church.
There were statements from the governor and even the president that this could lead to violence around the world or around the church.
However, after all this and the pastor's apparent lack of concrete information coming out of New York, neighbors are concerned about Dove World Outreach Center in the future.
“Given his history, I would say he's able to do anything at anytime. I wouldn't trust his word,” said Loren House.
"For the sake of other people who want to sell, that's definitely a concern,” Melanie House said. “Are they going to want to bring their kids to a neighborhood with a hate monger across the street."
The burning was supposed to take place on the same day as a University of Florida football game.
The city was asking Jones to pay for overtime security.
