Two people are in the hospital after paint fumes spread through an Orange County building. Firefighters responded to the 7700 block of Southland Blvd.
Firefighters said the building, which is a call center for the SunPass, had recently been painted and that's why more than 300 people had to be evacuated.
Firefighters said employees noticed the fumes soon after arriving at work. Someone called 911, while many just walked outside. When officials arrived, more than 40 people had to be treated. Two were taken to the hospital.
Experts said the heat could be to blame.
"The heat and the humidity that we get in Florida chemicals tend to react differently when we get that especially on high humidity days. So this just could have been one of those unique days where the weather played a role in what happened," said Terry Naumann with Orange County Fire Rescue.
Firefighters said they used fans to clear the air. Worker were allowed back inside the building at about 11:30 a.m.
