A Central Florida mother had to spend nearly two days in jail after she was mistaken for a suspected prostitute and arrested while on a cruise with her family.
“It was the worst trip of my entire life,” said Paola Londono, who was arrested Sunday in front of her husband and 9-month-old son on the cruise ship at Port Everglades, in South Florida.
“She was really upset,” said her husband, Holanda Londono. “She was crying. They handcuffed her. It’s really humiliating.”
Authorities said they confused the 31-year-old mother with a different Paola Londono, who is wanted on a warrant for prostitution and drug charges in Osceola County.
While the two women share the same name and both live in Central Florida, the fugitive Londono is 24 years old -- 7 years younger than the woman authorities arrested.
The innocent Londono is 4 feet, 11 inches tall, compared to the wanted Londono’s 5 feet, 4 inches.
The two women also have different birthdays and, of course, different Social Security numbers.
“If you take the two pictures and you look at it, they’re totally different,” said Holanda Londono. “It doesn’t make any sense at all. It’s totally ridiculous.”
The innocent Paola Londono was arrested on a Sunday, but because the following Monday was Labor Day, she spent nearly 40 hours in jail.
She said she lost 5 pounds because of the stress.
Her attorney, Jose Baez, said his client was finally released from jail after he got a judge to intervene.
The Paola Londono wanted by authorities remains on the run.
