An alert has been issued from the Orange County Health Department after a second case of West Nile Virus is diagnosed in a county resident this year.
This time the 80-year-old man died.
The other case was a 40-year-old man, who is currently recuperating at home.
Both cases reported no out-of-county travel in the two weeks prior to becoming ill, so the public is being reminded to guard against mosquitoes.
The message from the health department is to protect yourself by following the 5 D's, which include:
Drainage -- Check around your home to rid the area of standing water where mosquitoes can lay their eggs.
DEET -- Make sure you spray this on to protect yourself against mosquitoes. Always use repellents according to label instructions.
Dress -- Wear clothing that covers most of your skin.
Dusk and Dawn -- Avoid being outdoors when mosquitoes are most active.
