Despite the tough economy -one local golf course is coming off its two best months ever.
The Mayfair Country Club in Seminole County is hoping to appeal to the golfer who is looking for a deal.
Golf course owner Steve Phillips said the competition in Central Florida is fierce.
"It's just saturated with golf courses," Philips said.
There are hundreds of courses in Central Florida alone. All of them are fighting to get people on their greens.
"You know the slice of the pie is getting smaller," Philips said.
But instead of scaling-back on staff and maintenance, Phillips has gone in the other direction-- renovating the entire club, inside and out. He's also offering an $89 limited-time membership.
"We've had a lot of people come in from the higher end clubs who were struggling to make the higher payments," Philips said.
Phillips credits signs right next to a busy road, for bringing in customers who might have otherwise just driven on by.
Phillips said it's a buyers market out there and golfers can afford to be picky.
"Now's the time. It's a schmorgasboard. You have a chance to play some of the best golf courses in your area," Philips said.
Phillips said in the past two months alone, 350 new members have joined.
