Prosecutors in the bribery case against suspended Orange County Commissioner Mildred Fernandez are fighting back against strong allegations from the defense.
Fernandez’s lawyers said state Attorney Lawson Lamar and his office should be disqualified from the case because of several personal and political conflicts.
The state of Florida filed a 33-page response Thursday, saying Fernandez cannot prove any prejudice.
It also says Fernandez could face even more charges.
Fernandez was arrested in April on bribery, racketeering and other charges related to her campaign for mayor of Orange County.
