Ocala Fire officials will now be riding "green" to try to stay out of the red.
In an effort to save fuel costs and be more environmentally efficient, Ocala Fire Rescue has acquired two 2010 Toyota Hybrid vehicles.
The vehicles are rated at 51 miles per gallon. The hybrids feature a 1.8 liter dual overhead cam fuel-injected engine and are capable of automatically switching from gasoline to battery power.
"We are excited to put these vehicles into service, and it sends the right message to the community during these economic times," said Fire Chief Dan Gentry.
The vehicles have been assigned to administrative staff.
