Do you agree with the gay adoption ban being lifted?
The first gay couple has filed papers to adopt a child in Florida.
Their long-awaited dream can become a reality now that Attorney General Bill McCollum has decided not to challenge an end to Florida's 33-year old gay adoption ban.
Jennifer Hasemann and Hillary Jovi have shared a lot of memories. They've been together for 12 years and have always dreamed of adding a new face to their family portrait.
"We both knew instantly, I always knew my whole life that I wanted to have children, and I've always thought that adoption would be a a great way to add to my family and Hillary had the same beliefs," Jovi said.
But living in Florida they weren't sure if they'd ever be able to make that happen. They'd even considered moving out of state to be able to adopt a child.
"I think we both knew, always in our heart that someway, somehow. We'd have a family," Hasemann said.
Now, they're legally making it happen. They called Family Services of Metro Orlando and have started classes on adoption.
While they know the road won't be easy they plan to raise their child with a lot of love.
"There's no doubt that we'll be good parents, spoiled maybe, maybe a little spoiled," Jovi said.
Jovi and Hasemann have lived in the home for the last four years as life partners. They said the idea of moving a child in will make the house a home.
