News 13 has obtained recorded phone calls from jail right after former Florida Republican Party chairman Jim Greer was arrested on fraud charges.
Greer was released from jail in June.
In the tapes, Greer says he does not understand the reasoning for his arrest, and that he didn't really know about the specific charges against him.
Greer also talks with his wife, Lisa, who tells him to keep his chin up, and not walk like a “beaten down dog.”
In another recorded conversation with a friend, realtor Gene Collins, the two men talk about the arrest being political misconduct.
"I mean anybody else they would have said 'turn yourself in at 12 o'clock,'” Collins said.
"My attorneys, I just talked to Marcus Jimenez last night, and he reiterated if they do anything it would be the biggest prosecutorial misconduct that he has seen in all his years," Greer said.
Greer pleaded not guilty to six felony charges.
The judge set a preliminary trial date of Oct. 18.
