Brevard County Health officials issued a rabies alert Thursday after a raccoon tested positive for the disease in Melbourne.
The rabid raccoon was found in the area of Trimble Road, Melbourne.
The health department has asked anyone who has been in contact with stray animals, or has pets who might have come in contact with wild animals, to call health officials, or animal services.
Earlier this year, a warning was issued, because raccoons at Lori Wilson park in Cocoa Beach started to become aggressive.
Animal control officers say that's because people were feeding them. They remind residents not to feed raccoons them, and have their pets immunized.
