Winn-Dixie stores closing

Save Rite stores closing

Store official say it's all because of the bad economy.

9 Winn Dixie and Save-Rites locations will shut their doors in Central Florida including a location in Titusville.

Winn Dixie leaders said there are about 65 people per store that will be effected and 120 on the corporate level.

They said they are trying to relocate affected employees at other locations.

Many people that News 13 spoke with are concerned about more businesses having to close their doors due to the transitions happing in the space industry.

"They closed K-Mart.  Pretty soon Titusville is going to be closed,” said resident Mary Baker.

"And that's basically what is going to happen to most of this town at least for four, five, ten maybe ten years it will take for it to bring back," resident Prowse Dougoes said.

Representatives from the Titusville Chamber of Commerce said they believe there are tough times and challenges ahead.

However they said they think the area will be better than ever once Congress makes decisions concerning the space industry and the community is able to move forward with business plans for the future.

Officials said they did not want to have to close stores, but say it was the only way for them to stay afloat in these tough economic times.
