News 13 has learned the names of two people who died after being found unconscious on their boat near New Smyrna Beach.
Howard and Sandra Lupton of Palatka were camping on their boat on Disappearing Island.
According to Florida Fish and Wildlife investigators, the couple camped out overnight inside their boat on disappearing island near New Smyrna Beach.
"They did leave their on boat generator, according to witnesses overnight to keep cool and what not, obviously they were sleeping in their cabin," said Joy Hill with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation.
Both were found unconscious by the couple's son who was also camping out on a separate boat. FWC officials believed Howard Lupton, 50, and Sandra, 48, are victims of carbon monoxide poisoning, a silent odorless killer.
Officials said that on occassion FWC conducts boat equipment inspections. One official told News 13 they do not however, check to see if the vessel has carbon monoxide detectors.
Both Coast Guard and Beach Patrol rescue workers were on Disappearing Island on the intracoastal waterway within minutes performing CPR on the two.
“He was trying to revive somebody on the boat,” said witness Carol Rivera.
“When they got here they were pronounced dead,” Hill said.
This is the second consecutive holiday Coast Guard officials have been called out to disappearing island responding to a boat related incident.
The last accident happened on Memorial day when a large boat landed on top of a smaller boat killing a father and his daughter who was nine months pregnant at the time.
The bodies of the two have been turned over to the medical examiner to perform an autopsy and determine exactly how the Lupton's died.
Investigators are also taking a closer look at the boat and it's generator.
