An investigation into whether patient consent forms were falsified is underway at Moffitt Cancer Center.
According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the St. Petersburg Times, officials are trying to figure out if hundreds of patient signatures were falsified on documents that enrolled them in a cancer research study.
An employee has apparently admitted to falsifying one signature. Since then, nearly 500 more questionable signatures have been found.
The patients involved were taking part in one of the largest cancer research studies, with more than 60,000 people taking part.
Moffitt officials said neither the investigation nor the possible fraud affected patient care.
