Do you believe the shakeup is related more to the economy or an image problem for the speedway and NASCAR?
NASCAR fans can expect big changes beyond the re-paving when hundreds of thousands return for Speedweeks 2011--new track-- and new folks at the helm of the Daytona International Speedway.
Crews have been working non-stop giving the track major facelift, taking out the old track all the way down to the limerock and putting down 1.4 million square feet of new asphalt on the trioval Daytona International Speedway.
Crews are now repaving pit road. But those changes are almost laying down the foundation for changes upstairs, changes prompted by today's economy.
Former DIS president Robin Braig is gone, replaced by Joie Chitwood the third.
Also gone is the International speedway's chief operating officer, Roger Van DerSnick, he will not be replaced.
According to speedway officials, all these changes are part of the speedway's efforts to streamline operations and
possibly save millions of dollars in operating costs.
