Daytona Beach chooses local restaurant for pier

Last Updated: Thursday, August 19, 2010 8:35 AM

A group of investors from Volusia County will take over the Daytona Beach Pier instead of a national restaurant chain.

Daytona Beach commissioners last night chose the investors over Joe's Crab Shack in a four to three vote.

The investors own Crabby Joe's Deck and Grill in Daytona Beach Shores, and commissioners said they wanted to support a local business.

The city and the investors will spend the next few months negotiating a lease, and if that doesn't work, the city will see if Joe's Crab Shack is still interested in the pier.
