Production crews and film stars will soon transform Brevard County and the Kennedy Space Center into a Hollywood Studio. Director Michael Bay will begin shooting portions of "Transformers 3" on the Space Coast in mid-to-late September. The Space Coast Film Commission told News 13 production specialiasts may begin arriving as early as next week to begin preparations.
Meanwhile in Chicago, the associated press is reporting that the Indiana State Police say an extra at a "Transformers 3" production site was seriously injured during the filming of a stunt.
Authorities say the "Transformers 3" crew was filming late Wednesday in the Chicago suburb of Hammond, Ind., using several vehicles and drivers. Police say something went wrong and an object went through the windshield of a car, hitting the driver.
In a statement, police said the vehicle kept going for a mile before stopping.
Police did not release the driver's name. The person was airlifted to a hospital.
"Transformers 3" crews have been filming in the Chicago area all summer. Filming in Brevard County was set to start in late August-early September, but the schedule was pushed back by a few weeks due to undisclosed reasons.
The movie stars Shia LaBeouf, Patrick Dempsey, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich and model Rosie Huntington-Whitely.
The film is scheduled to open in theaters July 1, 2011.
The Kennedy Space Center may also become the backdrop for another major motion picture. Actor Will Smith visited KSC Tuesday on a "fact finding mission" to see if the Space Coast would work for the film "Men In Black 3," according to Space Coast Film Commissioner Bonnie King.
The Kennedy Space Center and NASA would not expound on Smith's visit, but did confirm he was there.
Filming for "MIB 3" is set to begin next spring.
