My dad says the Earth isn't really round. What do you say?
--Ashley, Pierson
Ashley, I'll say your dad is sort of right. The Earth is not a perfect sphere … it's an oblate spheroid. In other words, it bulges around the middle. The distance around the equator is 7925 miles, but from pole to pole, it's only 7899 miles. Its only a 26-mile difference, but a difference nonetheless.
