Kyle, have you ever noticed that the temperatures in cities are often warmer than those in the rural areas surrounding them? Buildings, concrete, and asphalt store more solar radiation than vegetation, and release it at a slower rate. Air pollution within urban areas also helps to keep some of the heat "trapped".
