Additional Information

A ramp used by thousands of drivers a day is now shut down.

The westbound Interstate 4 exit at Gore Street closed permanently Sunday night.

A spokesman for the Florida Department of Transportation, said they needed to close the exit so they can build a new ramp from I-4 to the new Anderson Street Bridge.

When that opens in May or June, officials expect it to increase driver safety and ease congestion.

That is not the only change drivers will face this week.

A new flyover ramp will open Tuesday morning, and is expected to ease congestion for people getting onto I-4 from State Road 408, headed eastbound.

"Those folks have right now, tried to get onto the same ramp with all the 408 traffic to I-4. From this point on, eastbound 408 to eastbound I-4 will have their own ramp, which is going to be a lot smoother, safer, and shorter. So people are going to enjoy it," said Jim Martin, an I-4 spokesman.

All of the closures are part of a $118 million plan to rework the I-4/408 interchange.

Trans4mation's Web site has maps and flyers with alternative routes.
