A new ramp from Interstate 4 eastbound to U.S. 17-92 opened early Wednesday afternoon in Seminole County.
Traffic will now be able to pass over Orange Boulevard, the CSX railroad tracks, the eastbound I-4 entrance ramp and 17-92, relieving a lot of the traffic congestion in the area.
Previously, drivers who exited I-4 had to go through three lights, stop at the railroad tracks and take an extensive length of road to get to 17-92.
"I haven't timed it, but I can tell you what, it will be fast, it will be exponentially faster," said Derek Hudson, the spokesman for the Trans4mation Project.
Hudson said commuters will now be able to exit directly onto 17-92. Ambulances will now have a direct route to Central Florida Regional Hospital and will not have to be delayed when a train goes by.
The project cost $22.3 million. The 18-month project ended four months early than scheduled.
