There were big changes on Interstate 4 in downtown Orlando as of Monday morning.
Crews opened up a newly-constructed entrance ramp to westbound I-4 at Hughey Avenue near Amelia Street Monday morning.
The westbound I-4 ramp near Robinson Street is closed permanently.
The removal of the existing ramp will make room for another lane on I-4 from Amelia Street to the Anderson Street exit ramp.
The work is part of a plan to revamp the interchange at I-4 and State Road 408.
Meanwhile, many drivers will see a new setup on S.R. 408 this morning because the new Conway toll plaza opened up this weekend for westbound traffic. Drivers need to be aware because there are new lane shifts in place.
Those changes, along with the millions hitting the road this week for Thanksgiving could create some traffic headaches. One thing that can help drivers avoid some of that holiday traffic is Central Florida's travel information number -- 511.
AAA says that this year Thanksgiving travel will be busier than in 2006. Workers at the 511 call center say they have already seen an earlier peak on travel that most years starts on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
"(511) is a free call from the Florida Department of Transportation. You can simply call 511 from a cell phone or landline telephone. You get free real-time, up-to-the-minute traffic information. It's all voice-prompt, so you ask for a roadway, you ask for an intersection, or an area, and the system tells you what the traffic is like, what your travel times are," said Mike Wacht, of the 511 Call Center.
You can also use 511 for Lynx, to check flight information or parking information at OIA and even get information on cruises leaving from Port Canaveral.
In Central Florida, an estimated 90,000 people passed through Orlando International Airport over the weekend.
If you are driving to the airport this holiday season, OIA has a program called Easy Pickup. You can park on Level 1 of the airport's main building to beat the holiday rush. However, you will need an E-PASS.
