Heather Sorentrue is News 13’s Lake County reporter. Heather loves Lake County’s unique landscape and charm. She says, “Covering Lake County gives me the chance to connect to my own community and report the stories that impact the many neighborhoods here.”

Heather worked for over three years as an Anchor/Reporter at WCJB, the ABC affiliate, in Gainesville, Fla. She used to share the anchor desk on the weekends with News 13 Meteorologist Peter Caggiano. During the week, Heather provided daily breaking news coverage from the field, often from outside the courthouse. Other memorable stories include the relentless hurricane seasons in 2004 and 2005 when Charlie, Francis, Jeanne and Wilma ripped across the state. Heather also covered local and national elections, as well as the poignant stories of military deployments and the wounded veterans returning home.  She is thrilled to be back in the Sunshine State after almost two years of crisscrossing the country while her husband pursued a graduate degree. Heather has also had the opportunity to live and work in Pittsburgh, Penn. and Santa Monica, Calif.

As a constant observer with a talent and love of writing, Heather always seemed on track to pursue a career in journalism.  While earning her degree from the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications, this South Florida native launched her broadcasting career at WRUF-AM and WUFT-TV in Gainesville. During that time, Heather also completed an internship at CNN Headline News in Atlanta. She helped to launch a celebrity health segment for CNN called Biofeedback and traveled to New York to shed light on illnesses that have struck famous faces.

Heather and her husband try to put a smile on the faces of children fighting life threatening illnesses by volunteering at Central Florida’s Give Kids the World. Heather also enjoys exploring Lake County’s trails, lakes, restaurants and festivals.
