If you’re having trouble finding a babysitter with a solid resume, or you are a babysitter looking for good employment, there’s a Web site can solve both issues.
SitterCity.com has been matching babysitters to families since 2001, when it was created in the Boston area.
Here’s how it works: First, search for a baby sitter for free. Type in your ZIP code to find sitters close to your home.
When I searched for 33613, in Tampa, the Web site listed more than 4,400 qualified, background-checked and read-to-work babysitters.
Each provider has an ID number and full profile. You don’t get to see their contact information or a background check unless you are a member of the Web site.
The profiles also include a calendar of availability, list of work experience, skills and certifications, job preferences including the rate per hour, ages of children sitters prefer, and even a list of references from people they worked with, along with their comments.
If you are looking for babysitting work, there is a link that will take you through the application process and tell you what you need to do to complete a background check, what references you must provide and how much it will cost to be listed.
There are also links for pet care, senior care, housekeeping and even tutoring.
The site even offers a corporate program, where companies can contract with Sitter City to provide services at a discount.
A college babysitter in the Tampa Bay area said she has more jobs than she can handle close to her home, thanks to the site.
The annual fee of about $100 for sitters and parents looking for sitters may be a lot cheaper than any kind of advertising you might do on your own, and it’s worth the time it takes than to keep trying to find a sitter at the last minute.
