Adam Balkin, Your Technology
In this edition of Your Technology, Adam Balkin takes a trip down the robot aisle at this year's Consumer Electronics Show.
Robots these days will clean your gutters, your floor and even follow you blindly anywhere you go.
Erector's newest Spyke Spy Robot not only helps keep an eye on your home while you're away, he has even agreed to work with your cell phone and your iPod.
"He can see, move, take pictures and the big novelty is it's made for iPods so, for example, the one that works with Bluetooth, you can control your iPod through your cell phone, you can see the playlist on your cell phone, and then the robot can play your music in stereo. It's also a communicating robot. If you get a phone call, you can hang up your phone and speak and hear through the robot," said Marie Mulot, of the Erector Company
No matter how scared you may be of robots, or how much you think they won't fit in your home, Wow Wee Robotics seems obsessed with trying to get one into your hands with an obscene number of robots and an obscene variety of robots, including the Femisapien, it's first female robot.
"You can sing and she'll sort of 'shoop shoop' along and sing along," said Art Janis, of Wow Wee.
The Mr. Personality robot is hoping you will choose him over a new TV for your home entertainment needs.
He tells jokes roams around and he has 90 minutes of content.
If you would prefer to ease into robots, there are a series of small ones from Wow Wee that connect to your computer through the USB drive and comment on content you are working with on the screen, from e-mail to Web browsing to calendar appointments.
