Additional Information

When you watch a shuttle launch on TV, things happen so fast it is sometimes hard to understand what's going on.

In this edition of Your Technology, News 13's Al Ruechel has found a video offering on the NASA site that explains everything from launch to landing.

It is a video journey of how the shuttle works from beginning to end.

Ruechel said he has covered the shuttle program since it started flying in April 1981 and has never seen any better presentation of the complicated process.

The scale of size of the shuttle is the most difficult concept to grasp until you see the video on the "How Does This Work." page.

The sheer power of the shuttle is also demonstrated. It is the most powerful controlled explosion in history.

Some lovingly called the shuttle the space truck, but as the video on the NASA site shows, it  floats more like a butterfly.

And when it lands, who would know it's akin to flying a brick until the final seconds before it gently kisses the Earth once again.

After you visit the "How Does This Work" page, you will never watch a shuttle launch the same way again.
