Future Emerils are yelling "bam!" in their own way at an online social network for those who love to cook. The Web site is called Bakespace.
"It is a place that is more than finding out about the recipes. It is a place where you can meet people from all over the world," said Sue Alexa, a member of Bakespace.
"On Bakespace, you come for the food, but stay for the conversation," said Babette Tepaj, the founder of Bakespace.
At Bakespace, food fanatics from all over the world are e-mailing each other, participating in live chats and blogging about their favorite foods.
Frank does a blog on grilling. Tazar, from Africa, has a blog on figs.
"There's Garret, who has a blog about cupcakes -- incredible cupcakes. There's my friend, Eric, who has fresh-baked cookies. He has a cookie company," Alexa said.
"It is called Freshly Baked. It started a couple of years ago. I got the inspiration from my grandmother who taught me how to bake when I was 5 years old," said Eric Weston, a member of Bakespace.
Why does Weston chat online with other baking bloggers?
"It has been very instrumental in helping give me ideas and sort of direct me in ways to make Freshly Baked bigger and better. Tweak things and make things run just that much more efficiently," Weston said.
But, Bakespace is not just for the kitchen savvy.
"Even if someone is not too familiar with the tools in their kitchen, that is a great site to get all that information from. It is kind of like a living cookbook," Weston said.
It is that kind of versatile appeal that has grown the site to over 10,000 members to date, but the creator of the hub for cooks of all levels insists that the biggest draw is what is behind the recipes.
"What makes the recipes really unique is that each recipe comes with a story. So, it's not just finding a recipe and going home. It is about finding a recipe and discovering a friend," Tepaj said.
