Why have geeks gone from avoidable to attractive in the dating world? Kurt the Cyberguy digs into the trend in geeks suddenly able to get a date and the non-geeks who love them.
Meet June Monroe and Varoujan Gorjian. No matter how tech savvy they each are, none of their computer smarts could feel a connection to traditional dating Web sites. Now geek dating sites are gaining in popularity. Move over cupid, there's hope for the nerds.
“It seems that Sweet on Geeks has different questions,” Monroe said. “And I think that's kind of what makes me a geek as well because I'm into the computer scene, online dating.”
“Basically geeks are, they have certain subset of interests and they're very intense about those subset of interests,” Gorjian said. “And usually those interests tend to be movies, science fiction, technology and computers.”
Those who sign up should be prepared to answer questions about their level of cleanliness, eating habits and social circle. But geeks seem to still looking for the same basic qualities.
Monroe: Nice. Someone that we have the same interests.
Gorjian: Sharing common interests and values.
Monroe: Someone with a college education.
Gorjian: Someone smart, good sense of humor, sweet, but also adventurous.
Do I hear a potential love connection? I arranged to hook up these two tech savants to see if sparks will fly.
"I like reading. I like education. I like computers, technology,” Monroe said.
“I wear the mantra proudly,” Gorjian said. “We're the few, the proud, the geeks!” Gorjian said.
