It appears that the son of basketball hall-of-famer Michael Jordan will play his first University of Central Florida basketball game with his father’s brand of sneaker on his feet.
A source told Bright House Sports Network that despite the school’s deal with Adidas, Marcus Jordan will wear Nike’s Air Jordan shoes in Wednesday night’s exhibition game against Saint Leo.
Marcus Jordan wore the Air Jordan sneakers in the team’s scrimmage Sunday.
The controversy stemmed from a story over the summer, when UCF said it would allow Jordan an exception to the school’s deal with Adidas, so he could wear his father’s sneaker brand.
UCF added that Jordan would wear the Adidas uniform, with the exception of the sneakers. The school said that Adidas representatives had agreed to the request, but higher-ups within the company later reconsidered.
UCF’s three-year deal with Adidas is worth $1.9 million for the school, and expires in 2010.
