ORLANDO -- Dante Marchitelli and George Galante, co-hosts of "The Dante and Galante Show" on the Orlando Magic's Web site, had a cult following, as the Orlando Sentinel's Kyle Hightower wrote, with six NBA teams at the Orlando Summer League.
Dante and Galante sat down with News 13's David Baumann.
David Baumann: Did you expect that type of success?
Dante: No, I figure it was a very slow sports week. That's why I think we lucked out. I don't know about you, George, but I slept like a baby knowing the summer league was over. We got through those five days, we had a lot of fun, and we took a lot from the fans. That was the best thing.
Baumann: We got to see some of the best talent in all of the NBA -- Michael Beasley of the Miami Heat, the No. 2 overall pick; Derrick Rose, briefly of the Chicago Bulls -- he was the No. 1 pick overall -- and Magic first round pick Courtney Lee, who made the All-Summer League First Team. Were you impressed with Courtney Lee?
Galante: I was, yes. I think all of the Magic Brass was -- Otis Smith, Stan Van Gundy, Dave Twardzik. I think he gave and brought everything to the table that was expected of him. He scored from the outside, he was effective from beyond the three point line, he was quick in slashing down the line, and he was solid on defense. So I think Courtney Lee, he got better as the week went on.
Dante: I think the 30-point game was incredible. Just to see how he played altogether. He was comfortable from the second he got on the floor. You could tell the guys who were comfortable from the guys who were not. He has a little mid-range team, a thing this Magic team needs. They have the three points and the dunks on the inside, but this guy can pull up from anywhere, and he handled the ball fairly well.
Baumann: Guys, do you think the only other guy who is going to make this Magic roster is Marcin Gortat, who played on this summer league team?
Galante: I think James Augustine has a chance of coming back as well. A two-year veteran for us, he still has a solid role on this roster. The other nine, ten guys I can't see coming back in the fall.
Dante: You can see the confidence in Gortat from last year to this year. He got a little burn in the playoffs last year. He was comfortable from the first pass he caught. Showing offensive moves, a nice little shot, he's been working hard this summer. I think he's going to get some minutes.
Galante: I agree, I agree.
