The Major Indoor Soccer League season is almost here.
The Orlando Sharks are new this year and training is under way in Longwood. They start their season Oct. 26.
There are players from all over the world on this team but some didn't have far to go at all.
"It's almost like a dream come true coming in here, that door opening up, the Sharks coming into Orlando. You know, I think it will open up a lot of doors for a lot of players that usually, after college, if they try somewhere else, they end up coming back if they don't make it, and now, with the Sharks coming into town, it can open up a lot of opportunities for a lot of other people, so we're happy that they're here," said Mauricio Ruiz, a former Stetson University player.
"It's great to be a part of something that started from the ground up, to be the first draft pick, especially -- first player picked to be on the team. I'm not signed yet, but it's great to be from around here and to be able to play in front of my community here and everything like that," said Anthony Santiago, a former Rollins University player.
With substitutions on the fly, a penalty box and a three-point line, MISL promises fun, high-scoring games.
"Yeah, it's a little different. It's a little different, but I think it's an exciting game. It's not the same as soccer sometimes. You go to games and you see a 0-0 or a 1-0, you know. I think people are going to love it. They're going to come to the stadium and be delighted," said Xavier Delgado, a former player for the University of Central Florida.
"It's just end-to-end action. It's just high-paced, high energy, high action, a lot of goals. Most Americans in sports like to see a lot of points, so the indoor game is just that," said Jake Dancy, the Sharks head coach.
Part of the reason Amway Arena was built was to attract an MISL team, and now Orlando will finally have one.
