The University of Central Florida has moved into a new neighborhood and now some people are calling for Heisman consideration for one of the team's hottest players.
Saturday's win over Memphis puts the Knights at 2-and-1 overall, and is getting the team votes in the Associated Press poll, too.
If one webmaster from Central Florida gets his wish, the Knights' terrific tailback, Kevin Smith, will get his glory, too.
The Web site KevinSmithForHeisman.com is up and running -- just like 24 Karat Gold is up and running away from the competition.
"I started this Web site because we see players like Mike Hart, Darren McFadden, Ray Rice -- players in these bigger schools -- get all the exposure nationwide. And players like Kevin Smith, (who are the) same kind of caliber players, just because we're Central Florida here, he doesn't get the nationwide attention he deserves," said Ryan Totka, the founder of KevinSmithForHeisman.com.
What does head Coach George O'Leary think about all the talk?
"Heisman? It's only been three games. I think it's way too premature," O'Leary said.
The UCF Athletics Department agrees and likely won't jump aboard any Kevin Smith Heisman campaign plans unless he can keep up his torrid statistical pace through the midway point in the season.
"If he goes through six games and he's putting numbers up, then I would hope somebody in this room is smart enough to start mentioning it to someone, " O'Leary said.
There is plenty of debate as to whether Smith should even has his name considered for the Heisman trophy when he is still relatively unknown on a national level. But, what fans can do for now is sit on down at their computers and log on to www.kevinsmithforheisman.com
"I appreciate all the fan base and all the support," Smith said during a news conference.
Balloting for the Heisman Trophy is done by sports journalists from across the country. It's unclear whether a Web site like Totka's can put some momentum behind Smith in the Heisman race, but at the very least it gives him some more publicity.
