INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION -- The crews of space shuttle Atlantis and the International Space Station said their goodbyes Tuesday as the shuttle gets ready to return home.
Astronauts closed the hatch between the orbiters just after noon, and Atlantis will undock from the space station Wednesday.
The shuttle has an extra astronaut aboard heading back to Earth. Nicole Stott spent the last three months aboard the space station.
At a joint news conference Tuesday, Stott, an alumna of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of Central Florida, said she’s looking forward to two things when she returns home.
“Seeing my young son and husband, getting back out in the sunshine and being back with family and friends is the main thing,” Stott said.
She and the rest of the shuttle crew are scheduled to land at the Kennedy Space Center at 9:44 a.m. Friday. Watch it LIVE on News 13, Your Space Station.
