KENNEDY SPACE CENTER -- NASA's next generation rocket is ready for its first test, which is now just weeks away.
Lots of changes took place over the summer at Launch Pad 39B.
In May, space shuttle Endeavour stood at the pad, ready to perform a rescue mission if needed, as another shuttle was servicing the Hubble Space Telescope for the final time.
There will be three lightning towers constructed at the pad to protect the 300-foot-tall Ares 1-X rocket from lightning.
Two of them will be in operation during the test flight.
They’ve also installed a new grappling system to stabilize the rocket.
Other modifications to the pad include taking away the beanie cap.
Launch Pad 39A will continue to support the shuttle launches for the next year.
You can watch the rollout of the Ares 1-X rocket set for Monday, Oct. 19 on your Space Station, News 13.
