HOUSTON -- The Johnson Space Center is closed because of the approach of Hurricane Ike, and that's causing delays for a number of NASA missions.
NASA has activated a backup Mission Control Center in the middle of Texas, because Ike is planned to strike Houston.
The closure prompted NASA to delay one of the flight readiness reviews for the October launch of space shuttle Atlantis.
The Johnson Space Center is also where Mission Control for the shuttle is located.
NASA has also delayed the docking of the Progress supply ship at the International Space Station 220 miles above the Earth, which was supposed to happen on Friday.
