CAPE CANAVERAL -- The crew of space shuttle Endeavour is headed home, but not before one last job.
Before the shuttle lands at the Kennedy Space Center Sunday, the crew deployed the Picosat Solar Cell Experiment, a 5 inch-by-10 inch satellite for the Department of Defense Space Test Program.
The satellite will test two types of new solar cells in the harsh environment of space.
The performance of the solar cells and their degradation over time will be recorded and used to determine if they are fit to use in flight.
Endeavour undocked from the International Space Station Friday. See previous story.
The shuttle is scheduled to land at Cape Canaveral at 1:18 p.m. Sunday, weather permitting.
The forecast for Sunday includes a chance for thunderstorms and high winds at the runway.
If weather stalls Endeavour's landing opportunity, NASA has scheduled a backup opportunity at 2:54 p.m. Sunday.
The shuttle also has additional landing windows at Edwards Air Force Base, in California, at 4:24 p.m. and 5:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
