New Rocket May Bring Jobs To Cape Canaveral
Monday, January 21, 2008 3:42:07 PM
A NASA contractor unveiled a new rocket Monday that could bring 350 jobs to Cape Canaveral.
Alliant Techsystems builds NASA's shuttle boosters. The Athena rocket -- a Delta 2-class vehicle -- would be alternate way to get cargo and crew to the International Space Station after the shuttle retires.
Allaint is teaming up with Lockheed Martin and Chicago-based startup PlanetSpace Inc. to compete for $175 million that is now up for grabs from NASA.
The seed money is meant to spur development of the new space program after the shuttles retire in 2010.
