MIAMI BEACH -- The race to replace Sen. Mel Martinez may be getting a bit crowded. Another elected official is thinking about jumping into the fray.
Rep. Corrine Brown, D-Jacksonville, said she is seriously considering running for the Democratic nomination. She made the announcement during the weekend at a Democratic Party event in South Florida.
Since 1993, Brown has represented Florida’s 3rd congressional district, which includes parts of Lake, Marion, Orange, Seminole and Volusia counties. View Map
Brown said she will make up her mind in a few weeks.
So far, only one other Democrat -- Rep. Kendrick Meek, D-Miami -- has entered the Senate race. Meek was elected to congress in 2002.
Gov. Charlie Crist and former state House Speaker Marco Rubio are seeking the Republican nomination.
