ORLANDO -- Central Florida’s controversial freshman congressman offered himself up to local reporters Friday after flying home from Washington.
Democrat Rep. Alan Grayson has been a lightning rod for controversy since he took to the House floor and said the Republican health care plan is “Don’t get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly.”
Grayson says he has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars with his new Web site, CongressmanWithGuts.com.
When asked about an opposing Web site patterned after his, called My Congressman Is Nuts, Grayson said, “They call me nuts, they call me stupid, they call me ugly -- they might be right about ugly -- but that’s not what’s important.”
“It’s not about me. It’s about the people I represent,” Grayson continued. “It’s about jobs, it’s about health care, it’s about education. Why can’t they stick to the point?”
Grayson also talked about his support for the health care reform bill, and his opinion that the U.S. needs to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan.
