ST. PAUL, Minn. – Sen. John McCain officially accepted the Republican nomination for the White House Thursday night amid a huge fanfare from the GOP.
McCain pledged to reach out his hand to anyone who can help “get this country moving again” and promised to bring real change to Washington, which is something he said his opponent simply can't do.
He said it will be up to both Republicans and Democrats working together to make it happen.
"I've been called a maverick; someone who marches to the beat of his own drum,” McCain said. “Sometimes it's meant as a compliment and sometimes it's not. What it really means is I understand who I work for. I don't work for a party. I don't work for a special interest. I don't work for myself. I work for you."
Meanwhile, McCain isn't taking any time off.
He and his vice presidential running mate Sarah Palin left for Wisconsin to get an early start on the final weeks of the campaign.
