ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin took to the stage at the Republican National Convention Wednesday night.
Palin had made headlines in recent days over the pregnancy of her 17-year -old daughter, and for her controversial firing of a state police official.
However, Palin used her speech to cast herself as a small town outsider, and even referred herself to a hockey mom.
She also took shots at the Obama campaign and others who criticize her experience, especially her service as a mayor of her small hometown.
"And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves,” said Palin. “I guess a small town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities."
Obama, of course, worked as a community organizer in Chicago, which is something he speaks about frequently on the campaign trail.
Rudy Giuliani spoke before Palin Wednesday night.
Sen. John McCain is set to address the convention Thursday night.
